Learn to Skate FAQ's

At what age can my child start lessons? We offer classes for skaters 4 years of age and up. Adult classes are available, it's never to late to learn a new skill!

How long are the classes? Typical sessions run 8 weeks.  All weekly group classes are 30 minutes in length and are taught by a certified Learn to Skate USA instructor.

When are classes held? Depending on what class you enroll: Sundays, Mondays or Wednesdays

I'm interested in hockey. Rimrock Skating Academy offers a Hockey curriculum designed to teach the fundamentals of hockey skating. Skaters will learn how to be more proficient and agile on the ice. Proper skating techniques for the game of hockey are the primary focus. All elements will be taught without a puck. Skaters will learn the basic hockey stance, stride, knee bend, use of edges and other necessary fundamentals to be successful in hockey practices and games.

I'm interested in basic skating. Rimrock Skating Academy offers Basic Skills that teach the FUNdamentals of ice skating and provides the best foundation for figure skating, hockey and speed skating. Levels introduce forward and backward skating, stops, edges, crossovers and turns. Upon completion of the Basic Skills 1-6 levels, skaters will be able to confidently advance to more specialized areas of skating. All classes are taught in a positive, FUN and social environment. Skaters will progress at their own rate and advance after skill mastery is demonstrated.

I don't own skates. Can I rent? Yes, rental skates are included with the cost of the session. For skaters interested in upgrading their skates, talk with a RSA instructor. RSA has a small inventory of quality skates available to rent for the season.

What should my child wear to class? We recommend dressing in warm layers. Bulky items restrict movement. Gloves or mittens are a must. Helmets are strongly encouraged for all classes and are required for children under 8 years old.
